Defending America’s Streets: The Deployment of National Guard by Columbia President

17

As tensions continue to rise across the United States, one can't help but wonder how our great nation will maintain law and order. In the wake of widespread protests and riots, Columbia University's President Minouche Shafik recently announced her decision to deploy the National Guard to maintain peace on campus. While some may applaud this move, others are left questioning the motives behind it.

As a staunch conservative, I firmly believe in the protection of our constitutional rights and the preservation of law and order. However, the deployment of the National Guard on a university campus raises serious concerns. This move not only goes against the fundamental principles of academic freedom, but it also sets a dangerous precedent for the militarization of our educational institutions.

Let's not forget, the National Guard is primarily trained for combat situations, not for dealing with peaceful protests. Their presence on campus could escalate tensions and potentially lead to unnecessary violence. Additionally, the cost of deploying the National Guard falls on the taxpayers, who are already burdened with the economic impact of the ongoing pandemic. Is this really the most efficient and effective solution for maintaining peace on campus?

Furthermore, President Shafik's decision to deploy the National Guard seems to be based on a flawed understanding of the situation. In her statement, she claims that the campus has been a target for violent protests. However, this assertion is not backed by any evidence. In fact, the protests at Columbia have been peaceful and have not resulted in any significant damage or violence.

It is clear that President Shafik's decision to call in the National Guard is politically motivated. It serves as a distraction from the real issues that are plaguing our society. Instead of addressing the root causes of these protests and finding solutions, she has chosen to use force and suppress the voices of those who are peacefully protesting for change.

As a conservative, I believe in upholding the rule of law and supporting our law enforcement agencies. However, the deployment of the National Guard on a university campus goes beyond the scope of their duties. It undermines the authority of the local police and creates a militaristic environment that is not conducive to a healthy learning environment.

In conclusion, the decision to deploy the National Guard by Columbia President Minouche Shafik is a misguided and politically driven move. It not only violates the principles of academic freedom but also sets a dangerous precedent for the militarization of our educational institutions.

As citizens, we must demand accountability from our leaders and question their actions that go against our values and beliefs. Let us stand together and defend America's streets without compromising our fundamental rights and freedoms.

  1. Quite a bit of “misinformation” in this article. For starters, the claim the National Guard is “Primarily trained for combat” show a lot of ignorance. All state guards are trained not only in combat, but in crowd control, support to local authorities during floods, hurricanes etc. the second claim, deploying the guard “could lead to militarization of our universities” is right out of the Dan Rather/John Kerry “makin’ Sh*t up” playbook. Biden might try something like that, but he already has the whackos running most of the universities in his pocket already.

  2. These children probably do not know what it is like to live under Hamas rule. I thought they were educated. Hamas uses their people as human shields and they don’t care about the humane treatment of their people. The land belongs to the Jews. They should do research on the issues and know what they’re talking about instead of just following the leader

  3. Ummmm, peaceful protests???? More misinformation, they need to be deported, end of story. Start deporting all of them, let’s see what happens. Maybe we’ll get our country back for starters.

  4. Although the author says they are conservative the tone of the article isn’t. I do agree that calling in the national Guard is not appropriate. Remember Boling Green in the 60’s. Not a good outcome. The Columbia administration has the tools and authority and are hiding from their responsibility, deflecting and cowering to the mob. The solution is simple first, simply expel those who participate in disruptive behavior. Second, resend the student visa of any expelled student and have them deported. The key is to have clear rules on what is protected speech and what is considered disruptive behavior. Disruptive behavior would be anything that threatens others or causes disruption in normal daily activities. It is just that simple it just takes leadership and responsibility to do what is right in this country.

  5. I disagree with the writer is wrong..when campus police have their hands tied by some PHD college president then law & order needs to be established, if the National guard is the answer to that then so be it…

  6. I agree that national guard is trained also for crowd control. I think author is biased toward a desired outcome. What somehow has become lost in academia is respecting people with other points of view allowing free speech to extend to them as well. We used to call this “Tolerance”. Also violence that aims to destroy, intimidate , coerce, or frighten. Is just plain evil and wrong and should not be tolerated if coming from right or left of center.

  7. Wake up Cowboy. This is just one more page out of Hitlers play book which Biden worships along with the democrat. The problem I see with this is when did a university get the power to call up the National Guard? This is a major over reach and dangerous even if you do not agree.

  8. These disgusting protests/riots are NOT ACADEMIC FREEDOM, they are threats to the security of everyone and they should be arrested and removed from the school!!!!!!

  9. Now how in the he** does a university ‘president’ have the ability to deploy the National Guard? Isn’t that the prerogative of Governors and the President of the country? Not some piddling whining university president?

  10. As an AMERICAN I only see an Organized MOB chanting Israel go to Hell, From the River to the Sea, “I am Hamas”, Etc; So, you see this isn’t t a “peaceful protest”, it is a staged Rant, Rebellion, Occupation, for Terrorists that have attacked Israel and taken their people Hostage, and we cannot tolerate this Communist/fascist behavior on our Soil. These people who are here on Student Visa’s need to be deported, and the people who are US citizens need to go to jail, PERIOD.

  11. Talking about making stuff up? What about your the Colorado Supreme Court just making up that they can ban political candidates? Where did they get that? Right, they just made it up and the U.S. Supreme Court just slapped them down for it. The Colorado court didn’t need Dan Rather/John Kerry to make up their insane candidate banning assumption. You guys need to impeach or recall your nuttty Supreme Court people.
