Notable distrust in federal agencies is on the rise. Many Americans feel these institutions are more interested in their own agendas than in doing what’s best for the United States.
Some cases of established corruption in the federal government have also led to questions about what more could exist behind the scenes that has yet to be revealed.
Right now, one of the latest institutions that’s under a microscope these days is the Justice Department. Just last week, the Department of Justice confirmed that former President Trump can, in fact, have legal action brought against him as a result of the January 6 riots.
However, new comments from Attorney General Merrick Garland that pertain to the Justice Department are now raising some eyebrows, per the Daily Mail.
Garland on the Justice Department
During congressional testimony before the Senate, Garland didn’t hesitate to share his thoughts about the Justice Department and various tweaks the agency could benefit from.
It is the attorney general’s viewpoint that in order for the Justice Department to truly meet its obligations concerning law enforcement and national security, it requires a greater abundance of resources.

Moreover, Garland told the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Department of Justice’s resources are also having impacts on its ability to direct more attention toward the issue of violent crime in America.
Some lawmakers stressed that the federal government isn’t doing enough to tackle problems regarding the southern border, such as fentanyl trafficking and more.
Not So Fast
Despite Garland’s insistence that the Justice Department needs more resources in its arsenal, some members of Congress want him to pump the breaks on that.
Republican lawmakers largely believe that Garland is responsible for the political weaponization of the Justice Department. These concerns were communicated to the attorney general last week during his congressional testimony.
Yet, in spite of this view, Garland has continually stressed the need for the Justice Department to have more tools to complete the tasks it’s being accused of neglecting.

Everyone knows it.

Nevertheless, some lawmakers believe that if Garland’s Justice Department gets the type of resources he’s speaking of, it will only further lead to the agency being even more weaponized and politicized.
On social media, conservatives with these worries are making their voices heard. They have also been blasting what they deem to be unacceptable answers from Garland during last week’s congressional testimony.
At this rate, there is no telling what comes next for the Justice Department or if trust in it will ever be restored.
