Dark Money, Illegal Donor of Democrats Found

A Swiss billionaire, who is not even an American citizen, poured tens of millions of dark money dollars into the campaign of Democratic politicians in the previous election cycles.

He is likely to fund many far-left campaigns in the upcoming midterm elections, as well.

Swiss Billionaire Funded Democrats With Illegal Money

Since 2016, nonprofit organizations linked to Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss channeled over $253 million to Democratic candidates and leftist causes.

Included in these causes are voter registration drives and efforts to impeach Donald Trump.

The executive director of the conservative Americans for Public Trust, Caitlin Sutherland, asserted the foreign dark money group is on a roll again to influence results of the midterm elections.

Sutherland also added that Wyss-funded groups are ready to influence the policymaking and mass mobilization campaigns dedicated to maintaining the Democratic majority in Congress.

The amount of dark money flooded from Wyss to Democrats is much greater than the reported amount since nonprofits usually lag in reporting their donations to the IRS, Sutherland added.

As per the law, Wyss cannot contribute to any U.S. election since he is neither an American citizen nor a permanent resident of the country.

For this reason, Americans for Public Trust already filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission.

However, the FEC was unable to take any decisive action on the complaint, so the conservative group is suing the federal entity in a district court in Washington D.C.

Responding to the complaint, a spokesperson of the Wyss foundation said a complaint is filed by a “partisan dark money group” and is based on nonsense.

An Illegal Mega Donor of Liberal Causes

An investigative researcher at the Capital Research Center in Washington, Hayden Ludwig, also acknowledged Wyss had been involved in funding Democratic campaigns and their favorable ideologies.

Ludwig said Wyss would continue his efforts if he is not stopped. Some of the prominent Democrats who bagged Wyss’ money include Stacey Abrams of Georgia and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Stacey Abrams, who received $3 million from Wyss-associated nonprofits, won the Democratic primary for this year’s Georgia gubernatorial election.

In addition to that, the multi-billionaire also donated over $1 billion to different environmental causes and pediatric health using his foundation.

According to court papers, Wyss lives in America under an E-2 investor visa. His Wikipedia page also marks him a donor of liberal political campaigns and environmental causes.

He made riches by selling medical devices through a company he founded back in the 1970s. The company was eventually sold to Johnson and Johnson for almost $20 billion.

Being an important donor of the liberal causes, Wyss is also present on the board of directors of the Center for American Progress.

This is a Democratic think tank and is considered very close to the Biden administration.
