US Attorney General Merrick Garland refused to update senators about Hunter Biden’s financial misdealings.
During his whole hearing, he beat around the bush to dodge questions about the controversial financial dealings of the first son.
Garland Refused to Give Clarification
On Tuesday, Garland was in a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee when he told senators he would not encourage any political interference in Hunter’s investigations.
During the hearing, Republican Senator Bill Hagerty expressed his concerns regarding the transparency of the investigations under the Justice Department; according to him, Americans are now losing their trust in the DOJ.

Currently, the US attorney for the District of Delaware, David Weiss, is overseeing the investigation.
Although Garland did not deny that he received updates regarding Hunter’s case from Hagerty, he still mentioned he could not update senators about the internal proceedings of the Justice Department.
Republican lawmakers were not satisfied with the answer.
They pressed Garland further to tell whether any internal official of the DOJ was being briefed about the ongoing investigations. Responding to that, Garland answered “normal processes” of the department are happening.
Many GOP lawmakers were also concerned about the rising sentiments of the people against transparency of the investigation. Thus, Hagerty asked the attorney why people should trust that he was doing a “serious investigation.”
To this, Garland said people should trust the process because a “Trump appointee” is overseeing the whole process. He was referring to the attorney of Delaware, who was nominated by the former president.
However, Garland also ended up praising himself, as he asserted another reason for Americans to trust the process is they have an attorney general with deep respect for the integrity of the DOJ and who does not succumb to any political pressure.

The Republican senator was still not satisfied with Garland’s remarks.
He inquired about the conditions of when these investigations would be given to special counsel, due to possible conflict of interest.
Garland Does Not Want an Independent Investigation
While Garland suggested the appointment of the special counsel depends upon the future of the case, he also emphasized the case should stay “within the department.”
Although Joe Biden claimed the Department of Justice’s investigations of his son’s shady business dealings would not carry political impacts, reality suggests otherwise.
For instance, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said earlier this month the president is “confident” his son is not involved in any crimes.
Similarly, press secretary Jen Psaki also emphasized that Biden never spoke with his son regarding his business dealings.
Yet, the latest revelations suggest Hunter’s top business partner met with Biden when he was the vice president in 2010.
Likewise, in contrast to Klain’s remarks, the Senate Homeland Security Committee and Senate Finance Committee scrutinized Hunter Biden’s financial dealings during Biden’s vice presidency.
They found out several banks flagged at least four of Hunter’s transactions as “potential criminal activity.”
