When the White House press secretary says a “full-blown communist revolution” is taking over a major party, it shows how extreme the language in our politics has become and raises real questions about what is rhetoric and what is reality.
Story Snapshot
- Karoline Leavitt called Democrats “communists” and warned of a “full-blown communist revolution” in recent TV and social media comments.
- She points to progressive Democrats who want to end private prisons, overhaul policing, and change property rules as proof of “radical Marxist ideas.”
- Experts say major Democratic leaders still back a market economy and do not identify as communists, challenging Leavitt’s claim of a true revolution.
- Both parties now use “communist” as a political weapon, feeding distrust of elites and deepening the sense that the system is failing regular Americans.
Leavitt’s “Communist Revolution” Charge Against Democrats
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has made “communist” language central to her attacks on Democrats since returning from maternity leave. On Fox & Friends, she said, “This is not your granddaddy’s Democrat Party… These are communists,” and warned of a “full-blown Communist revolution” inside the party. She argued that some Democratic candidates want to abolish private prisons, abolish the police, and abolish private property, calling these “radical Marxist ideas that have never worked in the history of the world.” Leavitt also claimed top Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are afraid to stand up to these “radical communists” and described the situation as “quite scary.”
Leavitt has repeated this theme in other settings, including a separate media appearance where she said “a Communist is coming to the White House” to describe New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist. She framed his election as proof that Democratic-led cities are drifting toward extreme ideology. In her telling, voters now face a simple choice between “communism and common sense.” These comments match a broader push by Republicans, led by President Trump, to brand Democrats as Marxists or communists and to say that this is the “biggest threat to our nation.” For many conservative viewers already worried about crime, illegal immigration, and rising costs, Leavitt’s words tap into deep fears that the country’s core values are being dismantled by elites who do not respect them.
What Experts Say About Democrats And Communism
Independent experts and fact-checkers push back hard on the idea that the Democratic Party is going through a real communist revolution. A detailed Associated Press fact-check notes that no candidate who openly belongs to the United States Communist Party has ever been elected to state or federal office. It quotes historian Marc Selverstone, who says major Democratic figures “even those further out on the left” do not identify as communists and do not follow Marxism in the traditional sense. The same report explains that, while some on the party’s fringe praise parts of communist thought, the party as a whole still supports a market-based economy and does not seek to replace American democracy with a one-party communist state.
This matters because a true communist revolution would mean ending private ownership of most property and putting the working class in control through a single party and state structures. That kind of upheaval is not what Democratic leaders, including progressives, are proposing in their platforms. Many support “democratic socialism,” which calls for elections, civil rights, and some social or public ownership alongside markets, and rejects authoritarian systems. That is still a big ideological fight, and people on the right see it as dangerous. But calling every push to expand public programs or rein in police power a “communist revolution” blurs important lines and can make honest debate harder.
The Long History Of “Communist” As A Political Weapon
Leavitt’s language fits a pattern that political scientists have watched for decades: American politicians have often labeled opponents “communist” or “Marxist” without firm evidence of actual revolutionary plans. This tactic dates back at least to the McCarthy era, when accusing someone of communist ties was a way to discredit them and rally fear, and it continues today. Recent reporting shows President Trump regularly calls Democrats “Marxists” and claims they want a “third world Marxist regime,” even while his opponents still operate inside the same basic constitutional system and market economy. When both sides paint the other as enemies of America itself, many regular citizens across the spectrum feel the government is busy trading insults instead of solving real problems.

For conservatives over 40, Leavitt’s warnings seem to confirm long-held worries about “woke” agendas, open borders, and attacks on police and property. For liberals of the same age, hearing their party called communist while they watch social spending cut and immigration crackdowns grow can feel like a bad-faith smear. Yet both groups share a growing belief that national leaders, in both parties, are more focused on winning the next election than on fixing the housing crunch, medical debt, and wage stagnation that block the American Dream. When top officials reach for the most explosive labels, like “full-blown communist revolution,” it can look less like serious warning and more like another sign that the political class would rather inflame than repair a broken system.

Commie is as Commie does
Well I have tried not to comment much these last few days but on this subject I just can’t stay quite. This lady Mrs. Leavitt has told it as it is. Just look at Russia, China, North Koria, & many other communist countries, the government own’s the land & business’ & country, & you only work for the government if you are lucky. You own nothing. You own no guns to go hunting with or defend your family with. Again I refer to the movie Red Dawn, if you saw it you know what I am talking about. If you think that communist are not trying to take over through the democrat party, just keep your head buried in the sand until it is to late. Wake up, & start making a difference at the voting poles this fall, only you can do it.
God Bless America & God Bless our troops over seas
